Last Day At Yale

Image
When I first came here, I was nervous and worried. I was not sure because I felt scared. I could not speak to somebody with confidence. I was afraid to speak out loud. My self confidence was so low. I thought everyone's English would be great. What if someone laughed at my English, but I was completely wrong. Here I meet new people from different countries. The people I met were very kind and nice. They helped me a lot in the early days of the program. I gradually became an independent person. My mom always told me to talk to people, make friends. She says; Sometimes other people can change your mood. Now I understand that she was right. Here, I just did not meet people; I met new food, culture, languages and nationalities. We spent a beautiful time with each other. I really enjoyed spending time with teachers and my classmates. Joining the program at Yale was very useful for me. I got better in writing, speaking and reading skills. I have learned something new from everyone. Yal

Overcoming Adversity

Image
Hello all, this is Mursal Sarwary. First of all I want to share the reason why I chose this topic for my poster. I chose the topic because I wanted to share the story of lifting my country (AFGHANISTAN) and coming to a different country (USA). And also how did I overcome the problems that I had?? In 2020, I came to the USA with my family. I had a culture shock because everything was new for me and my family. I was feeling sad because I was far away from my grandparents and friends. The language was hard. I could speak a little, but I could not solve my problems with it. In summer, me and my family joined summer English programs which helped us a lot. I went to high school for two years. I studied 11th and 12th grade here. I met different people in school who were from different countries. They spoke Spanish which I learned a little. I graduated!! I applied for the English intensive program. My teacher helped me a lot with it. I was excited and so happy when I got approved. This program

The holiday called (EID)

There are two major Eids in the Islamic calendar per year – Eid al-Fitr earlier in the year and Eid al-Adha later. Eid al-Fitr is a three-day-long festival and is known as the “Lesser” or “Smaller Eid” when compared to Eid al-Adha, which is four-days-long and is known as the “Greater Eid.” Eid al-Adha : Eid al-Adha commemorates the Quranic tale of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice Ismail as an act of obedience to God. Before he could carry out the sacrifice, God provided a ram as an offering.    Eid is the holiday which is at the of the month Ramadan. Men and women go to the masque and pray in the morning of the Eid. They wear new clothes. Women cook delicious food. They decide where to go for the picnic of Eid. Henna can also refer to the temporary body art resulting from the staining of t

Observatory and Planetarium of Yale

Image
The Yale University Observatory, also known as the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium, is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Yale University, and maintained for student use.  Yale's first observatory, the Athenium, was founded in 1830, situated in a tower. From 1830 it housed Yale's first refractor, a 5-inch (130 mm) Dollond donated by Sheldon Clark. It was the largest in the United States at the time. With this telescope Olmsted and Elias Loomis made the first American sighting of the return of Halley’s Comet on 31 August 1835. (It had been seen in Europe on 6 August, but no news of this had reached the United States.) The telescope was mounted on casters and moved from window to window, but it could not reach altitudes much over 30 deg above the horizon. In 1870, a cylindrical turret was added above the tower, so that all altitudes could be reached. In the same year a 9-inch Alvan Clark refractor was mounted in the observatory. The building was demol

Will's life

Image
This is the painting of a house in the valley called Cali. I chose this because when I saw it I felt connected to this piece of art. This picture has a gorgeous view of nature. We can see there is a hunting party. The man in the red jacket is the owner of the house. He is at the front of the party and his red jacket. This is the house of a rich person. His name is Michael. A boy who grew up in a rich family in a beautiful city of England called Liverpool with a lot of people. His name was Will. He wanted to do something on his own without anybody's help. He was a benevolent, good, respectful and selfless person and always liked to help people in need. His parents were kind and good like their child. They only had him. Will was the only child in that house. He went to public school even though he could have gone to private school. He always wanted to be ordinary like other normal people. Boys of his age treated him negatively. People said bad and cruel things about him, that he was

My Home

Image
My Home My home is in a country called Afghanistan. I lived in a city called Kabul which is the capital of Afghanistan. It was very busy and there was a lot of traffic noise because we lived in an apartment next to a park and there was a big road in front of the building. My house had a dark brown door and the number on the top of it. When you open that door you will see a small corridor that is the intersection of 3 rooms and the kitchen. I grew up in a home full of noise. The noises includes loud music and television, Vacuuming in the morning, playing around, and shouting.  Even my room, which I shared with 5 siblings. It was like a square, but we could fit in it.  Our room had a soft white and red rug with a beautiful big flower on it. I really liked to sleep on it because it was so relaxing.  The wall of our room was light gray with white color ceiling. On the right side we had a small bookshelf. Next to my room was a small kitchen with a lot of cabinets with dishes. Our kitchen
