There are two major Eids in the Islamic calendar per year – Eid al-Fitr earlier in the year and Eid al-Adha later. Eid al-Fitr is a three-day-long festival and is known as the “Lesser” or “Smaller Eid” when compared to Eid al-Adha, which is four-days-long and is known as the “Greater Eid.” Eid al-Adha : Eid al-Adha commemorates the Quranic tale of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice Ismail as an act of obedience to God. Before he could carry out the sacrifice, God provided a ram as an offering.    Eid is the holiday which is at the of the month Ramadan. Observatory and Planetarium of Yale

Image
The Yale University Observatory, also known as the Leitner Family Observatory and Planetarium, is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by Yale University, and maintained for student use.  Yale's first observatory, the Athenium, was founded in 1830, situated in a tower. From 1830 it housed Yale's first refractor, a 5-inch (130 mm) Dollond donated by Sheldon Clark. It was the largest in the United States at the time. With this telescope Olmsted and Elias Loomis made the first American sighting of the return of Halley’s Comet on 31 August 1835. (It had been seen in Europe on 6 August, but no news of this had reached the United States.) The telescope was mounted on casters and moved from window to window, but it could not reach altitudes much over 30 deg above the horizon. In 1870, a cylindrical turret was added above the tower, so that all altitudes could be reached. In the same year a 9-inch Alvan Clark refractor was mounted in the observatory. The building was demol

Will's life

Image
This is the painting of a house in the valley called Cali. I chose this because when I saw it I felt connected to this piece of art. This picture has a gorgeous view of nature. We can see there is a hunting party. The man in the red jacket is the owner of the house. He is at the front of the party and his red jacket. This is the house of a rich person. His name is Michael. A boy who grew up in a rich family in a beautiful city of England called Liverpool with a lot of people. His name was Will. He wanted to do something on his own without anybody's help. He was a benevolent, good, respectful and selfless person and always liked to help people in need. His parents were kind and good like their child. They only had him. Will was the only child in that house. He went to public school even though he could have gone to private school. He always wanted to be ordinary like other normal people. Boys of his age treated him negatively. People said bad and cruel things about him, that he was

My Home

Image
My Home My home is in a country called Afghanistan. I lived in a city called Kabul which is the capital of Afghanistan. It was very busy and there was a lot of traffic noise because we lived in an apartment next to a park and there was a big road in front of the building. My house had a dark brown door and the number on the top of it. When you open that door you will see a small corridor that is the intersection of 3 rooms and the kitchen. I grew up in a home full of noise. The noises includes loud music and television, Vacuuming in the morning, playing around, and shouting.  Even my room, which I shared with 5 siblings. It was like a square, but we could fit in it.  Our room had a soft white and red rug with a beautiful big flower on it. I really liked to sleep on it because it was so relaxing.  The wall of our room was light gray with white color ceiling. On the right side we had a small bookshelf. Next to my room was a small kitchen with a lot of cabinets with dishes. Our kitchen

Jeannette Walls' Childhood in The Glass Castle

Tuesday, July 14, 2022 Jeannette Walls' Childhood in The Glass Castle In Jeannette Walls' The Glass Castle S he portrays her childhood which is far from normal. The author describes her upbringing and youth as she struggles with parental neglect and abuse. She grew up in a home where her parents didn't feed her or protect her. Jeannette learns from her parents that she must fend for herself at a young age. Jeannette is independent at the age of three because already she is responsible for feeding and caring for herself. Jeannette owes her independence to the fact that her parents made her. The advantage of having parents like this was that Jeannette grew faster than other children and was able to be more independent. Jeannette Walls had a very troubled upbringing that included an alcoholic father, a neglectful mother, mean school kids, and an abusive extended family. One of a mother's major responsibilities is taking care of her children and feeding them. In the

My reaction to chapter 2

Chapter 2 The relationship between Mom and Daughter. A good relationship between mother and daughter is something which is really expensive and everyone do not have it. Jeanette's parents did not take care of her. Mom let her 3 years old daughter to cook by herself and kept her hungry instead she was enjoying, singing and painting in the other room. When Jeannette was on fire her mom was so relax and calm and had no feeling, but the stranger women felt bad for Jeannette. She ran to her car without saying anything. When the doctors and nurses saw Jeannette's body, They took the situation so seriously and were worried about her, so they start asking question from Jeannette. Because getting burned of a 3 years old girl was weird for them. The doctor asked "what was she doing in the kitchen by herself?" I was doing cooking hot dogs by myself at the age of three. It was easy, she said. Jeannette is telling us that her mother is not taking care of her. The hospital was clea

Reaction to Chapter 1

My Reaction To Chapter 1 Jeannette has everything, but her mom doesn't. There is a big difference between mom and daughter. Jeannette's mom is happy in her life without having money. Jeannette is a girl who has everything in her life. She has wealth, but with having all those things she is still not happy and she thinks that her parents are poor, not healthy and truly need help. She is fretted about them. Jeanette was ashamed of her mother picking through the trash and she is very concerned about other people's opinion. She is trying to help them but they are not taking her help seriously. When she offers her help they wants silly stuff.  In my opinion, her mom is trying to tell her that money is not everything in life and that her daughter should try to find happiness in her life without being a rich person.

What I saw at Yale University Art Gallery?

Image
The Yale University Art Gallery has 4 floor.  On the first floor, I saw people sitting and talking quietly because it was a museum, no one should disturb each other. I saw a lot of old things which were from different countries.   This picture reminds me of my country because we have so many things like this, all made by hand. And I made some of them like glass and bowl in mud. When I was a kid, we kids didn't have tablets, phones or TVs to watch cartoons and play games, so we played with mud and made things. On the second floor, there were many small statues of people from the past and I saw a statue that the people of India worshiped.  One the third floor, I saw gorgeous dishes with all kinds of different designs. It was just amazing. I am very proud of those who made such beautiful things. On the fourth floor, There was James E. Duffy Gallery. I saw nice arts. Arts of people, art's of trains, Arts of old towns which was so good I just love it.     There are many mountains a

First day at Yale

Image
When I first came here on the first day of orientation, I saw tall and old buildings. I thought Yale was some kind of museum because the buildings were completely different from modern buildings. The library was gorgeous, It was a very nice place, quite and peaceful.  I saw a lot of students. I was a bit shy and couldn't talk to anyone because I was afraid of talking to someone. After that, I met students who were very beneficent and were from different countries. I was happy and excited to be with people who are from other countries because I like to learn other people's culture and teach them my own culture, so we can have more information about each other nationalities.  The majority of people at yale were friendly and polite. For the first time, I felt comfortable with strangers and I felt proud because when I first came here, people talked about how it was really hard to get to Yale, but I took my first successful step in summer session of Yale. Studying at Yale was one of
